Student accomplishments

Five students from the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering and the College of Architecture Planning and Design are among those honored with 2018-19 Dwight David Eisenhower Transportation Graduate Fellowships from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

 

Reza Barazideh and Solmaz Niknam, graduate students, and Bala Natarajan, professor, all ECE, won the best paper award at the 9th IEEE Computing and Communication Workshop and Conference in January in Las Vegas, Nevada.

 
Faculty recognition

James Goddard, ARE/CNS, was named Professor of the Week in December. The recognition is coordinated by faculty senate, president's office, K-State Athletics and Division of Communications and Marketing.

 

Julia Keen, ARE/CNS, has been named to the inaugural "20 to Watch: Women in HVAC" list by Engineered Systems Magazine.

 

Venkatesh-Prasad Ranganath, CS, and a team of graduate students in the Secure-It-I research group, identified a high-security bug in the Android system and were awarded $2,500 from the Android Security Awards Program.

 

K-State and the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, served as lead organizers for the Symposium on Advanced Sensors and Modeling Techniques for Nuclear Reactor Safety, funded by a grant jointly awarded to Hitesh Bindra, MNE, and Suneet Singh, Indian Institute of Technology.

 
Announcements

The Kansas Board of Regents approved Dec. 12, 2018, the first named academic college at Kansas State University. K-State's College of Engineering will be named in honor of K-State alumnus Carl R. Ice.

 

The USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture awarded Kansas AgrAbility a new four-year $720,000 grant to extend operations. It will be administered by project director, John Slocombe, BAE, and project coordinator, Tawnie Larson.
