S. Niemeyer, W. Woldt, R. Grisso, and M. Dahab, University of Nebraska-Lincoln

Goals: The goal of this project is to transfer pollution prevention technology to farm operators, householders, and acreage owners.

Rationale: Investigators believe they can bring about change through source reduction in homes, on acreages and on farmsteads by developing written program resource materials and training educators to use these materials.

Approach: Literature will be reviewed as a basis for program content. Written program resource materials focusing on pollution prevention will be developed during year one, with complete publication of these materials and the training of educators occurring in year two.

Status: Work has focused on materials development. Literature was reviewed as a basis for the content of this program. Objectives were coordinated with Farm-A-Syst and Home-A-Syst programs. States contacted include Wisconsin, Oregon, Washington, Mississippi, and Alabama. The content has been developed with interactive materials and teaching guides. Drafts have been written for four educational units and educator's guides. A series of waste management fact sheets have been published. Materials are being sent out for technical review, with revisions scheduled before final publication. Future plans also include educator training. This project is in its first year.
