Art Umble holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Kansas State University and a doctoral degree in the same discipline from the University of Notre Dame.

He currently directs the Stantec Institute for Applied Science, Technology & Policy. He focuses on research in environmental science, ranging from water scarcity and reuse to circular economy, to the food-energy-water nexus influenced by climate change. In this role, Umble provides technical and managerial support to research teams, develops strategic partnerships with industry and academia, and promotes environmental science through numerous national and international forums. In addition to consulting and research, his experience includes university teaching and managing a publicly owned water and wastewater utility.

Umble serves on numerous state and national forums and stakeholder work groups related to emerging treatment technologies, sustainability in treatment and environmental regulation. He also serves on advisory councils for engineering colleges at two universities.
