The Carl R. Ice College of Engineering understands the importance of the return on your educational investment. Nearly $5 million of college and degree program scholarships are awarded to new and returning students each year. Engineering scholarships can be received in addition to other university scholarships or awards.
All K-State engineering scholarships and awards are based on availability of funds.
Incoming first-year students
A first-year student is someone who has not enrolled at another college or university within one year of graduating from high school.
First-year scholarships
The College of Engineering will award first-year scholarships that stack on top of any university awards a student might receive.

First-year scholarships are available for domestic students who have met all application and qualification requirements and have applied by the priority application date. Academic profiles can be updated until Feb. 1. Students do not need to complete an additional application for this award, but they should enroll in classes by July 1.
Students receiving a first-year scholarship must be enrolled as a full-time student in the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering taking a minimum of 12 credit hours of K-State coursework while making academic progress toward an engineering degree each semester.

Robert E. Campbell Scholarship – Engineering Scholar
(formerly Ice Scholars)
The Robert E. Campbell Scholarship – Engineering Scholar program is competitive and awarded to a select group of high-achieving students pursuing a Carl R. Ice College of Engineering degree program. To be eligible, students must apply for the university-level Robert E. Campbell Scholarship. Engineering students receiving the scholarship will receive a supplement from the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering that is stacked on top of the university-level Robert E. Campbell Scholarship. Applications are due Dec. 15.
Award details
- $10,000 per year ($5,000 per semester), including the Robert E. Campbell Scholarship and a supplement from the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering, stacked on top of a student’s university award*.
- Renewable for up to four years total if 3.50 K-State GPA is maintained.
*Students receiving a Robert E. Campbell Scholarship – Engineering Scholar award will not receive an engineering first-year scholarship.
K-State competitive scholarships
K-State has a limited number of competitive scholarships for future engineering students. All incoming first-year students may apply to be considered for these awards by filling out the competitive scholarship application by Dec. 15. Scholarships are based on academics, leadership, involvement and community service.
Project Lead The Way (PLTW) scholarship
The Carl R. Ice College of Engineering is a university partner with Project Lead The Way (PLTW) in offering a minimum of two $500 one-time scholarships for first-year engineering students. Apply by March 31 each academic year.
FIRST® Robotics scholarship
The Carl R. Ice College of Engineering is a university sponsor of FIRST® Robotics and offers up to three $1,000 one-time scholarships for first-year engineering students. Apply by March 31 each academic year.

Transfer students
A transfer undergraduate student is someone who has enrolled at another institution since graduating from high school.
First-year transfer scholarships
The College of Engineering will award first-year scholarships that stack on top of any university awards a student might receive.

Engineering first-year transfer scholarships are available for domestic students who have met all application and qualification requirements and have applied by the priority application date. Students do not need to complete an additional application for this award, but they should enroll in classes by Jan. 15 for spring start terms or July 1 for fall start terms.
Students receiving an engineering transfer scholarship must be enrolled as a full-time student in the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering taking a minimum of 12 credit hours of K-State coursework while making academic progress toward an engineering degree each semester. Students who are readmitted (have attended K-State previously), have previously completed a bachelor's degree or are international are not eligible for transfer engineering scholarships. A variety of funds are used to fulfill renewable transfer engineering scholarships.
After year one, all students are eligible for an engineering merit scholarship. See the current student section for details.

- Spring start term – November or January
- Summer/fall start term – April or June

Military-connected and nontraditional students
An individual review of each application will be conducted for students with a military background or who have a nontraditional background (graduated from high school more than one year ago and have not enrolled at another college/university).
Renewable military-connected/nontraditional student engineering award
Renewable college and degree program scholarships may be awarded to in-state and out-of-state students who have met all application and qualification requirements.
Engineering first-generation-to-college student award
A first-generation college student is defined as someone whose parent(s)/legal guardian(s) have not completed more than two years of education beyond high school nor completed a post-secondary degree. Those meeting the criteria can apply to be considered for an engineering first-generation-to-college award after completing 24 credit hours of coursework toward a K-State engineering degree.
This award is renewable for up to eight semesters with a 2.70 K-State GPA.

Current students
Engineering merit scholarships
All returning undergraduate students are eligible for Carl R. Ice College of Engineering merit scholarships, and a student’s K-State GPA will be utilized in determining the scholarship award level. Current students must update and complete their K-State Scholarship Network application by March 15, and scholarships will be awarded after spring semester grades have posted.

Award criteria
To receive an engineering merit scholarship, students must:
- Be enrolled in a Carl R. Ice College of Engineering degree program.
- Maintain full-time enrollment (a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester (fall/spring)) of K-State coursework leading toward degree completion.
Length of renewal
- Incoming freshmen may receive the engingeering merit scholarship for up to three years (six semesters).
- Transfer students may receive the engingeering merit scholarship for up to two years (four semesters).
Education Abroad scholarship
The college strongly advocates international experience for its undergraduate students. A limited number of $250 to $1,000 grants are available for those enrolled in the Carl R. Human Rights Campaign LGBTQ student scholarship database
The Human Rights campaign provides a list of scholarships, fellowships and grants for LGBTQ and allied students.
National Organization of Gay and Lesbian Scientists and Technical Professionals
Established the “Out to Innovate” scholarship for LGBTQ+ People in STEM. The scholarships are designed to promote academic excellence and increased visibility of LGBTQ+ students in STEM careers.
K-State Multicultural Engineering Program NACME Block Grant scholars
The National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering (NACME) awards scholarships annually to underrepresented minority (URM) students. K-State engineering awards 12 scholarships annually from the NACME block grant.

K-State engineering awards 12 scholarships annually in support of the mission of the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering.

NACME Corporate Scholars Program
Receive a one-time $5,000 tuition scholarship award that comes with the additional benefit of a paid internship. The program is part of a broader effort to ensure internships deepen experiential learning opportunities for each student.
Alianza Hispanic and Latino student scholarships
Alianza is a faculty and staff organization that advocates the advancement of Hispanics and Latinos at Kansas State University.

National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)
Founded in 1975, NSBE supports and promotes the aspirations of collegiate and pre-collegiate students in engineering and technology. K-State engineering has a NSBE student chapter.
Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE)
Formed in 1974, SHPE is the largest association in the nation for Hispanics in STEM. SHPE’s mission is “to change lives by empowering the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential and to impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support and development.” K-State engineering has a SHPE student chapter.
American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES)
Founded in 1977, AISES’s mission is ”focused on substantially increasing the representation of American Indians Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders, First Nations and other indigenous peoples of North America in STEM Careers.” K-State engineering has an AISES student chapter.
Society of Women Engineers
The SWE Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to those who identify as a female/woman and are studying baccalaureate or graduate programs in preparation for careers in engineering and computer science. SWE provides one application for sophomores through graduate students and one application for freshmen. Applicants complete an application and are considered for all scholarships for which they are eligible.
